We are excited about the new Home Visitor (HV) CDA revisions as they bring the HV credential into alignment with current research-based best practices while at the same time shorten the process and simplify the assessment components.

Everyone's feedback was essential in helping us best revise the HV credential! Thank you for all your thoughful suggestions.

The 2012 Home Visitor revisions include (1) Competency standards revisions and (2) a streamlined Local Assessment Team (LAT) process.

Some highlights:

• We have eliminated the 39-essay portfolio, and replaced it with a Professional Resource File (like Candidates in other CDA settings).
• We have revised the LAT meeting structure so that it can be completed within 2 hours.
• We have shortened the 26-question Council Representative interview to 10 relevant questions.

Competency Standard Revisions

While the core standards are the same, we have updated and expanded the definitions and examples of those standards so that Candidates can better understand how to put them into practice.

The revised standards reflect current research and new trends in the field of early childhood education and the appropriate practices expected for a CDA Home Visitor adult educator.

Streamlined Local Assessment Team (LAT) Process

We have carefully revised and streamlined the LAT process so that Candidates have a clearer and faster path to earning their Home Visitor Credentials.

Many of the requirements have been adjusted to reflect best practice and to ensure a smoother credentialing process.

• The Spanish versions of all HV forms and publications will be available in the summer of 2012.
• As of now, the Council will sell only the new, revised materials. HV CDA Candidates may apply using the old materials/process until September 1, 2012.
