       The second edition of the Spanish Essentials is now available. Its title is Fundamentos Para Asociados en Desarrollo Infantil que trabajan con niños pequeños, 2a Edición, and it includes all the revisions and updates that were made in revised in April 2005 — in the Spanish book, it is entitled “Código de Conducta Ética y Declaración de Compromiso.”
       Interesting new books are listed on the electronic bookstore. A series called The Director’s Toolbox has been created specifically for administrators of early childhood centers. The five books in the series are based on different aspects of the job:

  • Circle of Influence: Implementing Shared Decision Making and Participative Management (by Paula Jorde Bloom);
  • From the Inside Out: The Power of Reflection and Self-Awareness (by Paula Jorde Bloom);
  • Leadership in Action: How Effective Directors Get Things Done (by Paula Jorde Bloom); Making the Most of Meetings: A Practical Guide (by Paula Jorde Bloom);and
  • The Right Fit: Recruiting, Selecting, and Orienting Staff (by Kay Albrecht).

       These books are filled with wisdom based on the authors’ combined years of experience; years of mistakes, learning, growing, and finally achieving success. They are cleverly designed with illustrations and down-to-earth examples. Invaluable for the early childhood center administrator!
       Workshop Essentials: Planning and Presenting Dynamic Workshops by Paula Jorde Bloom is another book that will become essential for your office bookshelf. For anyone who may have the desire or responsibility to organize workshops, this how-to guide will teach you how to do it with style and success. Imagine that — a workshop that’s actually worth attending — one that delivers on its promises in the program! It could happen to you …
       Finally, here comes: Ready or Not: Leadership Choices in Early Care and Education. This powerful book is a frank discussion of early childhood care and education in the United States and the direction it is going. The concept of adaptive leadership is explained here, which may enable a shared vision among the diverse members of the field. Authors Stacie G. Goffin and Valora Washington tell it like it is and like it can be.
