Hungry Children Can’t Wait! Urge Congress to Pass the Keep Kids Fed Act

June 22, 2022

Hungry children can’t wait! Contact your members of Congress today and urge them to pass the Keep Kids Fed Act.

Congress is moving to help lessen the impact of the loss of child nutrition waivers, set to expire June 30th, by introducing the Keep Kids Fed Act (H.R. 8150). This legislation would increase reimbursements to schools and child care centers, as well as streamline access to healthy meals for children in family child care. It would also provide schools, child care providers, and summer programs additional resources to help overcome supply chain disruptions, rising prices for food, transportation and supplies, and increasing labor costs.

Because of how time sensitive this is, the Senate is planning to use a special process called Unanimous Consent, which requires all 100 senators to agree to allow the bill to move forward; one vote against would stop the entire process. Once the Senate passes the bill it will move to the House where the bill is likely to also move by an accelerated process called Suspension, which requires a two-thirds vote to pass.

Contact your senators and representatives right away and strongly urge them to vote YES on the Keep Kids Fed Act. To easily connect with your members of Congress, call the Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121
