Join Washington, Staffers at June 2-5 NAEYC Confab in Long Beach

The annual gathering for NAEYC’s annual Professional Learning Institute (PLI) is set for June 2-5, in Long Beach, CA. Dr. Valora Washington will be presenting at the conference and also will participate in a book signing with her co-author, Stacie Goffin.

Washington and Goffin are celebrating the release of their seminal book, Ready or Not: Early Care and Education’s Leadership Choices―12 Years Later (Early Childhood Education Series). This is the second edition of the book.

The signing is being sponsored by book publisher Teachers College Press (TCP) and is set for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 at the TCP booth (No. 331). (To order the book, go to /ow.ly/zsSn30o6EkW)

According to NAEYC, the PLI conference is designed for all early childhood professionals, including leaders who prepare, mentor and support early childhood professionals, as well as program administrators, teacher educators, trainers, teachers, preschool teachers, and researchers.

Each year, thousands of early childhood professionals gather at the Professional Learning Institute. This year’s event features more than 200 sessions, great networking opportunities and the NAEYC Shop and Exhibit Hall.

Washington and Goffin also will be presenting at the conference., as will two Council staffers. The sessions:

Sunday, June 2, 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Leveraging the CDA to develop an inclusive ECE workforce and career ladders: For 35 years, the Council and its signature Child Development Associate credential has played a pivotal role in advancing the early childhood education. This session will illustrate how some SECA states systematically leverage the CDA to support the ECE workforce development and building ECE career ladders.

Tuesday, June 4, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Elevating our workforce: How three states led workforce initiatives for all with a CDA foundation. Learn how Ohio, Indiana and Massachusetts successfully developed and implemented workforce initiatives for all early childhood educators, including their use of the Child Development Associate credential as a foundational step.

Moving the field forward 12 years after “Ready or Not”: In 2007, Ready or Not: Leadership Choices in Early Care and Education posed six field-defining questions that 12 years later remain unanswered. This session will explore what has changed over the past 12 years.
