Make Sure your Business is Counted in the Economic Census

January 26, 2023

Every five years, the Economic Census surveys millions of businesses to measure the nation’s economy—and their responses matter. The results of the Economic Census guide business policies and decisions that affect every industry and community in the nation. Yet many businesses don’t respond—including those in the early childhood sector. Historically, ECE organizations, child care center providers, family child care owners, health care, hospitality, finance, real estate and transportation companies underrepresent their economic impact. These businesses lose out because the results of the census inform how federal funding is allocated to more than 100 programs, including Medicaid, block grant programs for community mental health services, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP and early childhood programs like Head Start. So, make sure to respond online by March 15 if your business receives the Economic Census. Get more information and see how to participate by going to the Economic Census website.
