WASHINGTON, DC — Dr. Calvin E. Moore, Jr., the CEO of the Council for Professional Recognition, and Linda Hassan Anderson, president of the board of directors, join all Americans in a spirit of coming together and unity following an intense election season.

“At this time, when we know the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a severe public health threat, we honor the entire early childhood education sector for its work to safely educate our youngest learners. We congratulate President-elect Joe Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, and all federal, state and local officeholders who face enormous hurdles as we navigate the current crisis. We look forward to continuing to provide important insights and perspectives to aid policymakers as we must do more to save the early childhood field from the enormous financial toll caused by the pandemic,” says Moore.

Hassan Anderson says, “We’re very excited that Dr. Jill Biden will join her husband in the White House. Dr. Biden has been an educator for over three decades and is an important advocate. Teaching professionals, especially those in early education, are some of the unsung heroes of this moment and we must listen and respond to their concerns. Those who’ve earned the Child Development Associate credential are among those whose valuable voices we respect.”

Current research shows two out of five childcare respondents, and 50% of those who are minority-owned businesses, are certain that they will close permanently without additional public support. Experts say such shutdowns would have a devastating effect on working families that depend on the sector.

The Council, a nonprofit, offers and administers the Child Development Associate® credential (CDA), the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education and a key stepping stone on the path of career advancement in the field.
