WASHINGTON — The Council for Professional Recognition mourns the passing of civil rights activist and longtime congressman John Lewis.

Starting early in his life, Lewis stood up for those whose voices were not being heard. Lewis loved America and dedicated his life to making sure all people enjoyed freedom, while fighting tirelessly for equality for all.

The Council’s CEO Dr. Calvin Moore, Jr. shared his condolences saying, “The world has lost a true American hero. The burden of our fight for civil rights, equity, and equality was made lighter by his lifelong efforts. I wonder now who will pick up his mantle. I encourage all of us to think about ways we can take up his commitment to change the world.”
