Meaningful Updates on the CDA® Process
We're excited to announce important updates to the
Child Development Associate® (CDA) credentialing program
designed to better support candidates during the assessment process and beyond.
Improved Exam Sequence
Candidates will now take the CDA Exam before scheduling the verification visit, allowing for a more efficient and focused assessment process.
Streamlined Renewal Requirements
First Aid and CPR certification will no longer be required at the time of renewal. This requirement is regulated by state licensing agencies and at the child care program level.
Pricing Update
We have also announced the first adjustment to the credentialing fees since 2013, which will enable us to enhance the overall CDA experience to maintain quality and service standards. (Note: Action required for CDA® voucher use ahead of credential price increase.)
We appreciate your commitment and support to the early childhood education sector.
CDA® Paper Application Process Ending
The Council for Professional Recognition continuously works to enhance our credentialing process. It is our goal to ensure that each person has a successful experience with the online YourCouncil platform and receives the pertinent notifications and communications the platform provides on a regular basis. After careful consideration, we have decided to end our paper initial and renewal applications. The final day paper applications will be accepted is December 31, 2025.
CDA® Credentialing Decision Process Enhancement Statement
Candidates who achieve a qualifying level of competence on the CDA® exam, when considered alongside the full set of CDA requirements, including training, work experience, and the professional portfolio, may now be eligible for an expedited award decision, which does not require a verification visit.
New Birth to Five CDA® Credential
Recognizes your ability to work with multiple age groups in center-based settings, giving you greater workplace flexibility and career mobility.
Introducing Digital Credentials
You’ll be able to showcase your CDA achievement with a verifiable digital credential perfect for sharing on LinkedIn and other professional platforms.
