FIRST ANNIVERSARY ISSUE
JCruzThis issue marks the one-year anniversary of the CounciLINK. The newsletter began with just 10,000 recipients and today it has almost 25,000 readers.

Our goal in starting this electronic newsletter was to establish contact with and support for the large audience of early childhood educators, especially those who have earned CDA credentials. The Council is an important partner in the early childhood education community which is committed to preparing teachers of young children.
Our newsletter has attempted to provide resources and links for this audience. We plan to continue with occasional surveys to gauge our readers' interests. We appreciate your feedback and hope you will continue to let us know how
the CounciLINK can best serve your needs.

TIPS playing
As early childhood educators, we know that playing can be a vehicle for learning. With skillful direction from a teacher and the use of interesting containers and toys, children can have creative and educational experiences with sand and/or water.
Think of all the things children can learn by investigating the properties of water or dry sand. These discoveries expand even more when water is added to sand or dirt. But it is the teacher's key questions that ignite the discovery process: "Which weighs more, dry sand or water?"
"Which of these objects do you think will float? A marble, a cork, a leaf? Try them and see what happens. Lets make a chart with each object and mark whether or not it floats." "Will this plastic tea cup float? What happens if you pour water in it?" The teacher's ongoing dialogue creates an atmosphere where children feel comfortable with scientific investigation. quizA recent survey was sent to a sample of people who maintain an active CDA certification. One question concerned the 120 clock hours of formal child care education required of CDA candidates. How important is it that the 120 clock hours of formal child care education be eligible for college credit? Click here to see the most popular results.
