Spike in Queries about Training for the CDA Credential
trainingFunding for early childhood education is in the spotlight and the news prompts both hope and concern. On one hand, Federal stimulus funds are increasing budgets for Head Start, Early Head Start, and the Child Care and Development Block Grant; on the other, state fiscal crises are resulting in budget cuts to early childhood initiatives. The potential enactment of the Early Learning Challenge Fund has spurred new hope for improving quality and a renewed focus on enhanced qualifications of early childhood teachers. All of this activity has prompted an increase in calls to the Council about the training requirements for those applying for the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Here we present some of the most frequently asked questions and their answers. For more of this article, click here.

FYI   The August CounciLINK featured "Making Dramatic Play an Enriching Experience," an article with dramatic play tips for early childhood educators. It has been shown that dramatic, imaginative play helps children to develop skills that will contribute to future scholastic success. This week, the New York Times Magazine featured an article on the same subject, expanding further on the concepts developed by the Tools of the Mind curriculum, among others.
