Halloween Fears Are Managable
costumes
Monsters. The dark. Dogs. A friend's Halloween mask. Thunder. Children may be frightened of so many things. Some fears seem logical; others don't. But understanding child development helps us know what to do to help children cope with their fears.
During one stage of infancy, many children are afraid of strangers or even people they see fairly often. During infant and toddler years, children still rely on the surface appearances of things and often think that objects have life. Children's fears may be explained by understanding child development.

fluUp-to-date information about the H1N1 flu virus that is affecting the population in the U.S. is available at http://www.flu.gov/.
Particularly relevant for early childhood educators is the toolkit for preschool teachers here. This kit includes questions and answers about the flu, fact sheets for parents, a poster, and templates that can be used to write letters to parents about steps they can take.
Also the website features many public service announcement videos about preventing the spread of the flu virus
they are at http://pandemicflu.gov/psa/index.html. Several of the newer videos feature the character Elmo from Sesame Street: "Elmo and Rosita: The Right Way to Sneeze" and "Elmo: Have a Flu Plan" (these are in English and in Spanish).
