Stepping Up Our Child AdvocacyBeing an effective teacher of young children is a wonderful way to affect the lives of children, but there are thousands of children in our country and around the world who are hungry, homeless, unhealthy, or have been harshly treated. Children are unable to defend themselves, so we must take it upon ourselves to act in their behalf. This is part of the mission of becoming an effective early childhood educator. As early childhood advocates, we can stand up for good programs and services for children and families, and take action in our local areas, nationally, and even internationally. ![]() Employment prospects look good for early childhood professionals in the next decade. One classification by the Bureau of Labor Statistics was "child care workers," which includes private household workers, who care for children at the children’s home; family child care providers, who care for children in the provider’s own home; and child care workers who work at separate child care centers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, these child care jobs will increase 18% in the ten-year period between 2006 and 2016, which is a faster than average increase. Preschool teachers' jobs are predicted to increase just 12% during the same time period. |
