Important Update: CDA® Exam Scheduling Changes Effective 8/1/2025

June 25, 2025

Beginning August 1, 2025, the Council is implementing a new exam-first approach for the CDA credentialing process. This change enhances standardization and streamlines the process, allowing candidates to demonstrate their expertise in a structured manner.

What’s Changing?

Candidates must now complete the CDA exam before scheduling their verification visit with a PD Specialist.

Updated Scheduling Process

  • Step 1: Exam Authorization – After payment, candidates will receive their first “Ready to Schedule” notification, outlining their six-month deadline to complete both the exam and verification visit and authorizing them to schedule their exam.
  • Step 2: Verification Visit Authorization – Once the exam score is received, candidates will get a second notification, officially authorizing them to schedule their verification visit with a PD Specialist.
  • Timeline: The six-month timeline to complete the exam and verification visit remains unchanged. Therefore, it is crucial that candidates schedule their exam as soon as possible

Why This Change?

  • Ensuring Standardization – This adjustment creates consistency across all CDA holders.
  • Supporting Future Enhancements – This new structure aligns with future changes that will further strengthen the CDA credentialing process.

We appreciate your commitment to excellence in early childhood education and look forward to supporting you through this updated process!
