Council for Professional Recognition Strengthens Board Leadership with Two New Appointments and Officer Elections

WASHINGTON, DC – February 9, 2026 – The Council for Professional Recognition, the nonprofit organization that supports early childhood education professionals and administers the Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential™, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members of the Governing Board: Dr. Marquita Davis and Ms. Jeselie Antigua Martinez.

Dr. Davis, Principal Consultant of Furness Impact Strategies, brings more than 20 years of experience in early childhood education, specializing in transformational change across education, philanthropy, and the public and private sectors. Previously, she served as Chief Academic Officer at KinderCare Learning Companies, leading national academic strategy, curriculum innovation, and government advocacy. Her leadership experience also includes roles as Deputy Director for Early Learning at the Gates Foundation and as the State of Alabama Finance Director of the Department of Children’s Affairs. Dr. Davis holds a PhD in Early Childhood Education and Development from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Ms. Jeselie Antigua Martinez is the Lead Teacher and Preschool Director of the Academy of Education at Hialeah Gardens High School, where she also directs the school’s CDA® program within the career and technical education (CTE) pathway. An advocate for academic empowerment and lifelong learning, she brings extensive experience in early childhood and special education. Ms. Martinez holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in special education with an Autism Endorsement from Florida International University and mentors high school students while overseeing instructional quality at the on-site preschool, The Garden Sprouts.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Davis and Ms. Martinez to our Board,” said Dr. Calvin Moore, Jr., CEO of the Council for Professional Recognition. “Both bring deep, firsthand experience in early childhood education and a shared commitment to elevating the profession. Their expertise will strengthen our work in expanding access to high-quality, competency-based credentialing opportunities, championing educators, and advancing systems that support children, families, and the educators who serve them every day.”

Additionally, two current Board members were elected to leadership roles: Dr. Sandy Baba was elected as Vice President and Dr. Shannon Bracamonte as the Secretary of the Board of Directors.

“I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the Board of Directors with Sandy for more than four years and Shannon for the past two years,” said Albert Wat, Council for Professional Recognition Board President. “The election of Sandy as Vice President and Shannon as Secretary reflects the strength and growth of our Board. Their continued service in these roles ensures thoughtful governance and strategic continuity as we advance our vision of a society where all children learn and thrive in environments led by competent, valued early childhood educators.”

“I’d also like to thank Dr. Stacie Goffin and Dr. Yolanda Garcia for their years of dedicated service on the Council’s Board,” said Wat. “Their guidance, insight, and unwavering support for early childhood educators have left a lasting impact on our work and the communities we serve.”

Together, these appointments strengthen the Council for Professional Recognition’s leadership at a pivotal time and will help advance high-quality, competency-based credentialing pathways that support early childhood educators at every stage of their careers.
