WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Council for Professional Recognition, the nonprofit organization that supports early childhood education professionals and administers the Child Development Associate® (CDA) credential, proudly presents new vision and mission statements, embodying its steadfast commitment to the early childhood education sector.

Since 1985, the Council has been at the forefront of recognizing the many contributions of early educators. The early childhood field is constantly evolving, with new research, practices, and policies emerging. In 2023, the Council embarked on an ambitious strategic planning endeavor, uncovering transformative opportunities for future impact and positive change. This comprehensive exploration yielded a new vision and mission, which the Council enthusiastically embraces as the guiding force driving its collective efforts. The new statements also ensure the Council is aligned with the current needs and trends in early childhood education.

Vision
The Council for Professional Recognition envisions a society where all children learn and thrive in environments led by competent, valued early childhood educators.

Mission
The Council for Professional Recognition advances career pathways for early childhood educators through high-quality, competency-based credentialing.

Dr. Calvin E. Moore, Jr., the Council’s CEO, shares, “Our vision and mission captures the limitless possibilities for our entire organization. These dynamic statements embody a deliberate intention that is actionable and achievable. I’m already aligning my efforts with this mission and the values it represents and I know our entire team is as well. Our collective dedication is playing a pivotal role in shaping a future where every child learns and thrives under the guidance of competent, valued early childhood educators.”

Dr. Moore further explained that the new vision and mission “ensures the Council’s work can maintain its relevance and effectiveness in supporting the early childhood education field well into the future.”

Albert Wat, chair of the Council’s Governing Board, shares, “I congratulate Dr. Moore and the entire Council for their work updating the mission and vision. I affirm that the entire board is enthusiastically supportive of these statements and ready to support them. We believe these statements will serve as a strong foundation for implementing the Council’s strategic goals.”

The Council for Professional Recognition continues to strengthen its enduring impact on the early childhood education field, proudly celebrating the awarding of the one-millionth CDA in 2023.
