The Council for Professional Recognition, the nonprofit organization that supports early learning professionals and administers the Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential™, and the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC), have partnered to increase the number of family child care providers who earn a CDA®  and pursue NAFCC Accreditation.

According to their three-year agreement, the Council will provide funding for an accreditation scholarship for NAFCC members who hold a CDA and are pursuing NAFCC Accreditation or working toward accreditation. Additionally, the Council will fund a NAFCC membership to family child care providers who renew their CDA, a sign of continued commitment to excellence in early learning.

NAFCC shares this sense of commitment as a nationwide nonprofit dedicated to promoting high-quality child care by strengthening the family child care profession. NAFCC provides advocacy and support for the nearly one million paid home-based early learning programs serving almost 40% of the 6.7 million children who receive care from a nonrelative on a regular basis.

Home-based providers play a key role in the early learning and care delivery system, according to Dr. Calvin E. Moore, Jr., Council CEO. Moore is a longtime supporter of family child care and of the NAFCC. “The aim of the partnership,” he says, “is not only to recognize the many CDA holders who are family child care providers but also encourage them to seek or maintain NAFCC accreditation, a recognition of high-quality care in home-based settings.”

In addition, the agreement between the Council and NAFCC is “a sign of recognition and respect for family child care,” says NAFCC Executive Director Erica Phillips. “Through this partnership, we will be welcoming all CDA holders to NAFCC and encouraging them to continue their accreditation journey. So, the partnership is about more than funding. It also marks a milestone in honoring competence in home-based care and lifting up the family child care profession.”
