Getting to Know the Council

Meet Sandra

Council Partner Relationship Manager

“The CDA® is the most widely recognized credential in ECE. Being awarded the CDA means a candidate is qualified to be a lead teacher in the classroom. It is also a key stepping stone on the path to ECE career advancement!”

If the Council has a Wonder Woman who is smart, savvy and strong, it’s Sandra Kowalchek, or Sandy for short. Born on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, Sandy loves exploring the world around her to learn about others and their culture. This deep interest in people took root when Sandy was small, thanks to teachers who inspired her to really get to know others by the way they got to know her. “They celebrated my strengths and helped me overcome my weaknesses,” Sandy recalls of her early years.

Today, when Sandy isn’t nurturing partnerships for the Council, she pursues her passion for  travel, a hobby that stems from her time earning a graduate degree at the London School of Economics and her 15 years working at the Discovery Channel. Sandy also adores being by the water since it gives her a sense of happiness and calm. When she’s not setting sail or boarding a plane, Sandy enjoys checking out new restaurants and spending time with family and friends. She is always up for learning and trying new things with those she loves. In the words of Nelson Mandela, Sandy embraces this truth about life and how she chooses to live her own: “I never lose. Either I win or learn.”
